Honeybush
a uniquely South African story
From the wild mountains of the Langkloof to your cup – pure, sustainable, South African honeybush tea.
The Honeybush Company was founded in 2017 as a research and development project. It has grown into a fully fledged processor, offering bulk produce both to the local and export markets. We aim to have a positive impact on both the conservation of this unique resource and the community it grows in. The Langkloof region situated in the Southern Cape Coastal mountains of South Africa, is rich in fynbos biodiversity, including several honeybush species.
When harvested correctly and cultivated regeneratively, honeybush is a sustainable crop that could provide a good livelihood to farmers and harvesters in the region.
Every leaf we harvest tells a story – of land, people, and purpose. Together, let’s brew a better future.

Modern use and health benefits
Honeybush has been fairly slow to commercialise next to the success of Rooibos although it is arguably a superior product with a greater range of health benefits.
Research into the health properties of Honeybush has been slow but since the late nineties several important discoveries have been made.
Honeybush has been shown to have amazingly high antioxidant levels, higher than Matcha and often recognised as the highest of all commonly consumed herbal infusions. It also has a host of other important phytochemicals such as Mangiferin, the main phenolic compound present along with a host of other compounds such as xanthones, as well as flavanones, dihydrochalcones and benzophenones.
These compounds together in honeybush are being tested for their potent anti-cancer effects, skin photoprotection, anti-obesity and anti-diabetic properties.
The health benefits, along with great taste, make the potential for Honeybush to grow as a commercially important herbal infusion very likely in the coming years.
Testimonials
If you’re looking for a tea that’s easy on the palate and genuinely satisfying, honeybush is a good choice. This tea’s taste to me is naturally sweeter, unlike some herbal teas that can be overly earthy or bitter. Plus it’s caffeine free, to be enjoyed throughout the day.
I have been using your rough cut honeybush as a stock in stews (brilliant with quince and bacon in a beef shortrib potjie) and to make iced tea. The loose tea has so much more flavour than the tea bags. But I like the earthy and round sweet tastes, with some florals and spice notes.
In a world of complicated wellness routines, something as simple as a cup of green honeybush tea has made a remarkable difference in my life. Its soft, naturally sweet taste is a daily delight — but the real magic lies in what it’s done for my body. Since adding it to my routine, I’ve noticed powerful changes in my gut health and skin. The most noticeable? My digestion. The anti-inflammatory properties of green honeybush — especially in its unfermented form — seem to have a naturally soothing effect on the gut. Since I started drinking it, bloating and discomfort have significantly decreased. It’s become a non-negotiable part of my evening wind-down. Because truly, nothing beats ending the day with a warm, calming cup of green honeybush tea.
Simple. Soothing. Effective. Just the way wellness should be.
